SDG at WUR
2. Zero hunger
The world population is increasing rapidly and is expected to hit the 9 billion mark in 2050. In less than forty years, two billion more people will need food, housing and jobs. There is no single simple solution. Sustainable food security calls for a multi-disciplinary approach.
3. Good Health and Well-Being
Wageningen University & Research focuses on research on healthy food, healthy living and on preventing epidemics such as coronavirus.
6. Clean water and sanitation
Water quality is an important factor for global food production. With the population of the world growing and becoming more affluent, managing of the world’s resources of fresh water becomes increasingly complex.
11. Sustainable Cities and Communities
The increasing concentration of people in urban environments means that social, economic and environmental demands for living and working are under pressure.
12.Responsible consumption and production
Globally, a third of all food is lost or wasted between the farm and the fork.
13. Climate action
Global warming has caused a discernible effect on physical and biological systems.
14. Life in seas and oceans
The (inter)national marine policy strives to promote sustainable use of oceans and coastal regions. Wageningen University & Research (WUR) offers national and international governments insight into the consequences of current ocean policy has on ecosystems and biodiversity.
15. Life on land
In the Planet Earth Management research by WUR, the perspective is the earth and its resources for mankind.
17. Partnerships for the goals
Wageningen University & Research (WUR) will host the international conference ‘Towards Zero Hunger: Partnerships for impact’ at Wageningen Campus on 30-31 August 2018. The conference objective is to build bridges between the global challenges and local solutions, and between the various stakeholders (policy, science, business, civil society) to work in new partnerships on achieving the Zero Hunger targets in 2030 (SDG2).
