CGIAR, a global research partnership for a food-secure future
No single research institution working alone can address the critically important issues as gathered in the Sustainable Development Goals, such as global climate change, agriculture and food security. Therefor the 15 CGIAR institutes work with strategic partners for their research programs and platforms. Wageningen University & Research has an extensive collaboration with CGIAR, some examples of this collaboration are highlighted
The CGIAR Portfolio 2017-2022 is structured around two interlinked clusters of challenge-led research.
- The first of these is the innovation in eight Agri-Food Systems which involves adopting an integrated, agricultural systems approach to advancing productivity, sustainability, nutrition and resilience outcomes at scale. WUR collaborates in the Roots, Tubers and Bananas Agri-Food Systems.
- The second cluster consists of four cross-cutting Global Integrating Programs framed to work closely with the eight Agri-Food Systems Programs within relevant agro-ecological systems.
