In Memoriam: colleague Olvin van Keeken
It was with deep sadness that we said goodbye to our beloved colleague Olvin van Keeken on 6 May. Olvin had worked at Wageningen Marine Research (WMR) since 2002 as a scientific researcher in the field of freshwater fish ecology.
Olvin had been ill for some time and therefore had a very limited living environment. He found the pain and his limitations too much and chose to retire from life. He was 48 years old.
Olvin was characterised by his enthusiasm, organisational abilities and methodical approach, with an eye for scientific precision and integrity. Besides his research work, Olvin was coordinator of WMR's licence applications in the areas of the Nature Act, the Fisheries Act and the Animal Experiments Act. For colleagues, he organised social gatherings such as game nights. And for many years he was Piet - and last year even Sint - for the children of colleagues at the Sinterklaas celebrations in IJmuiden.
Olvin was not only a valued colleague but also a friend to many within WMR. His warm personality, enthusiasm for the profession and willingness to help others will be remembered. We will miss Olvin.
