Field strip mixture used by farmers collectives in the Netherlands

In the Netherlands farmer collectives are stimulated to develop field strips to support biodiversity and pest control. Different mixtures are used depending on the collective and region. In this project a review is made of the mixture used and how they support biodiversity and pest control.

In this project an overview is made of the current mixtures that the agricultural collectives in the Netherlands use in agri-environmental management. In consultation with other current KB projects related to the Kennisimpuls pollinators and the TKI project FAB+, which specifically looks at the value of plants for pollinators and natural enemies, consideration is being given to how these mixtures can then be assessed in a simple way for their quality, contribution to biodiversity (especially insects, birds) and pest regulation. Because this method is not yet available, an assessment will initially only be made for the flowering arc of the mixtures in 2021, because this method is already operational. The information contributes to the implementation of the IBP project 'Field edges and public greenery', in which collectives are also thinking about the composition of field edge mixtures.
