Project

Creating healthy and sustainable food cultures and practices in secondary schools using the Whole School Approach combined with citizen science

The project will explore how the participatory methodology of citizen science can be implemented by secondary school students in The Netherlands and in Cyprus within the framework of the Whole School Food Approach to create healthier and more sustainable school food cultures.

The objective is to investigate the impact of the approach of citizen science on secondary school students (e.g., on skills, underlying values) and on the school food system (e.g., on school practices, school policies). Additionally, the study aims at looking into the challenges and obstacles faced by secondary school leaders and teachers in using citizen science in their educational process of learning about food.
