In the Netherlands we have a tremendous amount of knowledgeavailable about our soil and subsoil. Soil and subsoil are of considerable importance in considerations and choices for spatial planning and development in the Netherlands. However, there is room for improvement in the application of the knowledge of soil and subsoil in current practice.
The DNA-consortium has been working on ways how to make better use of the knowledge on soils and subsoils. Based on six pilots, the DNA project provides better insight in the necessary soil and subsoil data in projects with deal with climate adaptation in cities and the surrounding area. Special attention is given to how this data can be opened up and how it can be transformed to be applied in practice. By assessing current methods (Methodiek B&O 1.0), we work through an update of these methods towards improved new methods (Methodiek B&O 1.0). By doing so we are looking at smart combinations of data sources, while strengthening the links between knowledge and practice, between data owners, researchers, experience experts, designers, consultants and students. In addition we are providing insight in the relations between the different themes and social issues at hand. WENR is lead partner of the DNA project and in addition responsible for pilot Middelburg, where additional research is taking place.
