Monitoring genetic diversity aquatic genetic resources
Monitoring genetic diversity of wild populations of shellfish, fish and seaweed relevant to Dutch aquaculture is important for conservation and sustainable use of these aquatic genetic resources in aquaculture.
For the identified relevant aquatic species, the above work will be carried out. These are the mussel, oyster, eel, turbot, pikeperch, sugarweed, fingerweed, sea lettuce and wakame. The first two years of the programme are dedicated to setting up the monitoring. A knowledge gap analysis is done, and a monitoring protocol is set up for each species. Going forward, monitoring of the relevant species will be carried out and analysed, and protocols will be adapted where necessary.
