Joint Internal projects of WBVR in the European Partnership Animal Health and Welfare (EUP-AH&W)

WBVR is involved in 12 of the 22 "Animal Health" projects within the EUP-AH&W funding framework. For 7 of these projects (STDs in the terms of the EUP-AH&W), co-financing is requested at this one. These will invest in surveillance and diagnostics of infectious diseases and in new methods for risk estimation for wildlife animals and farm animals. Special attention is paid to antimicrobial resistance and zoonoses in the interest of human health.

At the population level, indicators of resilience and animal health are examined to link early warning systems to these as well. In addition, the interaction between pathogens and the microbiome is studied in order to guide resilient farm animals that are less susceptible to infections. Finally, the role of innate immune system in infections and effectiveness of interventions are investigated to arrive at effective interventions. The technique of interventions (vaccinations) is being further developed. Implementation of these projects will strengthen cooperation on innovative topics that are crucial for the future of sustainable and animal-worthy livestock farming in the Netherlands and Europe. For an overview of the projects, see "Finance".
