Interventions to enable consumers to reduce their water use and household food was
A growing world population, transgression of planetary boundaries and climate change pose major challenges for us. To enable innovation, climate action and an overall societal sustainable transition, a profound change in consumer behaviour is needed. However, understanding and driving change in consumer behaviour is complex and requires a multidisciplinary approach to develop and test advanced interventions.
This project focuses on selecting, developing and testing behavioural change to encourage consumers to adopt environmentally friendly behaviour. The aim is to develop effective and feasible interventions that are accepted in practice and contribute to long-term environmentally friendly behaviour. The consortium is working on two specific household consumer behaviours, water use and food waste, taking a similar approach to selecting and co-creating behavioural interventions. The project will provide new insights on the effectiveness, feasibility and acceptability of behavioural interventions that encourage consumers to act in an environmentally friendly manner, as well as interventions that ensure that this environmentally friendly behaviour is permanent (structural changes).
In addition to scientific insights, this project also contributes to the knowledge and experience of the participating partners regarding water and food waste. Finally, the project provides more general insights that can be used to support consumers in changing to and maintaining environmentally friendly behaviour.
