Implementing conservation advice into stock advice
For eel, ICES has expanded advice given on fishing opportunities to include advice on non-catch anthropogenic pressure (‘conservation aspects’). Currently, ICES is working towards integrating these conservation aspects into the advice for all stocks: Technical guidelines are being developed by ACOM on how to merge conservation advice to the stock advice. Once these guidelines are definite, conservation advice will need to be provided for all stocks. These guidelines will have an impact on all WMR’s WOT stock advice work and may impact the ministry’s fishery management.
