Project
EU partnership - PARC
The UN (Global Environment Outlook, Global Chemicals Outlook ) and the EU (Green Deal, Chemicals strategy for sustainability) among others are urging measures that should lead to a non-toxic environment for humans, animals and the environment. Our knowledge about the occurrence, exposure and toxicology of chemical substances is still relatively limited. Moreover, the methods by which data are obtained and the storage of the data are poorly harmonized, making it difficult to exchange data.
PARC is an EU-wide research and innovation program that will support the risk assessment of chemicals within the EU and Member States with new data, knowledge, methods, expertise and networks.
Two groups from Wageningen Research are involved in PARC, namely WFSR and WPR Biometris. PARC is expected to be launched in the second quarter of 2022. WFSR's contribution to PARC concerns the development of innovative methods for monitoring external (food) and internal exposure (human biomonitoring), with an emphasis on non-target/suspect screening. WFSR is also involved in setting up animal-free approaches (e.g. based on in vitro methods, computer models and artificial intelligence) that are mainly intended for the identification, characterization and early signaling and detection of chemical hazards in the food chain.
In addition, WFSR will contribute to the harmonization of quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) of methods for laboratory analysis (chemical analysis and toxicity testing). The co-financing required for the activities of WFSR in PARC comes partly from this KB project.
