Project
BroilerNet 2024
The aim of BroilerNet is to boost the sustainability and resilience of the European broiler sector by applying ‘best practices’ on primary farms on the themes of animal welfare, animal health and environmental impact. BroilerNet is a thematic networking project, in which solutions are sought for challenges in the sector. These are then assessed by an EU-wide thematic network. The best 'best practices' will be given a cost-benefit analysis and will be shared with livestock farmers, integrations, and other sector parties through various communication channels.
BroilerNet is a thematic networking project, which means that challenges for the sector on the three themes of animal welfare, animal health and environmental impact are identified in national networks of farmers, other sector actors and research. Solutions to these challenges ('good practices') are then sought within these networks.
These solutions, already ready for practice, are then assessed by an EU-wide thematic network that evaluates all ideas from the 13 participating countries and selects the best practices. The best 'best practices' will be given a cost-benefit analysis and shared with livestock farmers, integrations, and other sector parties through various communication channels (videos, virtual farm visits, fact sheets, road shows). The cycle of identification of challenges and best practices, and subsequent EU-wide testing and knowledge dissemination, will take place 3x within the project duration, which will lead to 24 best practices and thus practice-ready solutions per theme, and in addition 3x36 elaborated best practices that will also be widely communicated.
