Beheersmaatregelen ontstaan en verspreiding azoolresistente Aspergillus fumigatus
The development and spread of the azoles-resistant fungus Aspergillus fumigatus in various agricultural sectors are a serious problem for the treatment of patients infected with this fungus. There is an urgent need for effective measures that prevent the development and spread, which is investigated in this project.
Using fungicides from the class azoles in several agricultural sectors, including the Dutch bulb sector, may result in the development of resistance against these fungicides in the saprophytic fungus Aspergillus fumigatus in organic waste form these sectors. This fungus can also cause infections in humans that are treated with medical azoles.
The resistant fungus from the various sectors makes this treatment ineffective with a very strong increase in mortality of the patients. Therefore, on request of the Ministry of LNV, the Ctgb has issued measure for the Dutch bulb sector to contain the problem. In this project, the effectiveness of these measures will be tested as well will some alternative methods be investigated.
