ReGeNL - Modelling across spatial scales
ReGeNL is working together with Dutch farmers to develop a future-proof agricultural sector where farming goes hand in hand with soil improvement and nature restoration, while also ensuring a sustainable income model for farmers.
Between now and 2030, ReGeNL will support 1,000 farmers in transitioning to regenerative agriculture with a positive business case. By taking this crucial first step, ReGeNL aims to become a leading example for the sector in the Netherlands and internationally.
This way, we are making regenerative agriculture the new normal between 2030 and 2040.
Within ReGeNL, multiple work packages are organized across various action lines and perspectives. Work Package 3B focuses on developing a toolbox of models that food system actors can use to predict and quantify potential regenerative futures. These models serve as discussion and decision-support tools.
In this work package, a selected set of models will be further enhanced by integrating indicators aligned with key regenerative agriculture themes. Additionally, they will be developed to better simulate regenerative practices such as strip cropping and agroforestry.
In 3B, we will co-develop various regenerative scenarios at different spatial scales - from the field to a global level - together with stakeholders across the Dutch farm-to-fork chain. These scenarios will then be modelled using our tools to assess and explore potential pathways toward a regenerative agricultural future in the Netherlands.
