Modeling the effect of temperature and chemicals at different levels of biological organization
Summary
In this thesis, I investigate how temperature and chemicals affects aquatic live at different levels of biological organization. Due to global change, both of these two factors will increase in their relevance as environmental stressors. My goal is to help make better predictions about the environmental risks they pose in the future. I'm doing this by creating detailed models that show how these factors impact living organisms, starting from individuals and going all the way to whole populations.
To improve our ability in connecting the effect at the tiniest parts of living things to how individuals and populations are affected, I suggest linking different models. I also believe we should combine experiments and computer models to make our predictions stronger and more reliable. Lastly, I think we should communicate our findings better to help us make progress in understanding and managing environmental risks.
