Prof. Ciarán Forde at the 12th International Conference on Nutrition and Growth in Athens

Prof. Ciarán Forde, Chair holder of the Sensory Science and Eating Behaviour Chair group, was invited to present at the 12th International Conference on Nutrition and Growth in Athens (20th – 22nd of February 2025).

Prof. Forde contributed to the Nestle Nutrition Institute Symposium focused on “Toddler Foundations; Nurturing brain, body and behaviour”. He spoke on the importance of early life texture experience and learning in the development of oral processing behaviours, and the synergistic relationship with the development of oral anatomy and physiology. Whereas oral anatomy develops with chronological age, eating behaviors are learned through texture experience. This highly adaptive process of learning is needed to refine and coordinate the skills needed to bite, chew, and safely swallow a diverse range of food textures during infancy and into
toddlerhood. The conference Nutrition and growth meeting was attended by
>1,400 researchers and clinicians focused on early life diets can influence
growth and development.
