Developing a plant-specific CRISPR-Cas enzyme

CRISPR-Cas mediated genome editing is a technology that has revolutionised the biological sciences. However, though CRISPR-Cas mediated genome editing seems to work universally in plants, in most plants species the efficiency is low. In my project, I work on the efficiency problem at the enzyme level, using bioinformatical and structural data to optimise the effector enzymes to work more efficiently in plants.
