Summary

This research describes the relations between the yields of maize, the nitrogen soil surpluses for maize and the nitrate concentrations after the maize harvest. Relevant data over the years 2006-2019 are shown in tables and graphs. An explanatory analysis with Fixed Effects and Random Effects models depicts the most important influential factors on yield, nitrogen soil surplus and nitrate concentration. The farmer is not able to influence some of these factors, such as soil type. The research shows that cultivation of a successful cover crop after the maize harvest is the most important factor which the farmer can manage to decrease the nitrate concentration and where the yield doesn’t decrease and the nitrogen soil surplus doesn’t increase.
