Summary
Eight in-depth interviews with ten arable farmers and dairy farmers show that they are positive about managing soil organic matter to capture carbon in the soil. In their opinion, the main obstacles to taking measures – or taking more measures – are the lack of specific knowledge about how proposed measures meet the needs of the farm's particular type of soil. Incentives for these farmers could aim to provide financial and institutional scope to conduct experiments to develop this 'soil-specific' knowledge for their own farms. In such cases, the farmers' own networks (peer groups) can be used to learn together and to exchange experiences.
