Bestuivers in het licht: hoe licht bestuiving in kassen beinvloedt

Kok, P.A.; Hendriksma, H.P.

Summary

In modern greenhouse horticulture, pollinators such as honeybees and bumblebees play a crucial role in the pollination of crops such as tomatoes and strawberries. While growers often focus on optimizing light conditions to enhance plant growth, research shows that these adjustments can have significant effects on pollinators. Especially in greenhouses, where artificial lighting and light-regulating materials are used, bees and bumblebees experience challenges related to orientation and activity. This results in inefficient pollination and economic losses for growers. To improve pollination in greenhouses, a group of six students from Aeres University of Applied Sciences conducted a literature review and conducted interviews with professional beekeepers, growers, and researchers. This article provides an overview of the collected insights and highlights the challenges and potential solutions related to light conditions and pollinators in greenhouse horticulture.
