Convivial arctic futures : Understanding the role of tourism in times of ecological crisis

Huijbens, Edward H.

Summary

This chapter will outline research that can contribute to Arctic conviviality and how to understand the role of tourism therein. The chapter will start with laying the conceptual foundations of conviviality and the reason for its value when it comes to addressing the challenges of climate change and uncertain futures. Then the chapter will turn to the tourism encounter to explicate how visitors encountering others, landscapes, and more-than-human life in the Arctic context can be understood and explored. The research agenda thereby proposed is one of conviviality wherein what we attend and attach to matters, and the stories thereof even more so.
