UPWARDS: Understanding of the Physics of Wind Turbine and Rotor Dynamics through an Integrated Simulation Framework
‘UPWARDS’ (Understanding of the Physics of Wind Turbine and Rotor Dynamics through an Integrated Simulation Framework) is an EU project on wind energy, focusing on integrating public and stakeholder needs, practices and opinions into innovative wind energy research and modelling.
UPWARDS is an transdisciplinary project on the topic of wind energy that combines social and environmental research with technical research and then aims to translate the findings into immediate innovation in the industry. This will be done by utilizing high performance computing to optimize the design of future large-scale rotor blades according to technical, economic and societal demands.
Upwards project is a consortium between partners from research, industry and consultancy. This partnership is made at the EU level and is funded by Horizon 2020.
The research tasks of the Wageningen University in this consortium are taken by the ENP in a form of one PhD research project coordinated by dr. Mattijs Smits and carried out by Helena Solman in her PhD thesis which will deliver the social and environmental part of the research.
