Monotony vs. diversity of experiences; the role of both positive and negative emotions on the welfare of the animals

Lamia Benaded will investigate the importance of experiencing mild negative emotion in the overall happiness of lambs.

Theoretical work and empirical evidence in humans suggests that overcoming mild negative experiences contributes to experiencing more positive affective states and building personal resources, such as competence and resilience.

Lamia will study whether these principles also apply to a case of captive mammal: sheep. Most of her work will be based in France in a collaboration between INRAe (Dr Raphaelle Botreau and Dr Claudia Terlouw), University Clermont Auvergne and Wageningen University (Dr Laura Webb).
