Project

Internship: Detection and identification of potentially hazardous microorganisms in clinical and environmental samples

This project will take place at TNO, Rijswijk

Background:
The CBRN Force Protection department of TNO executes research tasks for the Dutch Defense organization in the field of protection against possible chemical and biological hazards. One of our priorities is to improve the detection and identification of potentially hazardous microorganisms in complex matrices (clinical and environmental samples). To establish whether or not there is a biological threat, for example, caused by a terrorist act or by the emergence of an infectious disease. An immediate response is required to mitigate the effects after contact with a biological threat. Therefore, timely detection of a biological event is essential for an adequate response. At our institute we develop methods to improve rapid detection, identification and diagnosis.
