Project
Geographical features of apples
Unique geographical features of apples produced in the two main production areas of China
Introduction
The apples from specific origins strongly influence the consumer's purchasing decision, and they would retail at higher prices compared to the other apples. Moreover, apples of different varieties or geographical origins could be easily mixed during harvesting and marketing. Therefore, effective and reliable technologies and approaches that could identify apple quality, variety and geographical origin could be extremely valuable to sellers and consumers.
Aim
The main objective is to study intrinsic characteristics of apples that relate to their botanical origin and provenance, and elucidate the relationship between apples and specific environmental conditions.
Approach
The project will focus on new insights on the relationships between the composition of apples on the one hand and their genetics and cultivation location on the other hand. In this case, the analytical fingerprint signatures of the apples will be correlated with variety and geographical production features.
