Evaluation of “Bring Your Own Device” Project in WUR

Wageningen University and Research (WUR) is looking into creating more flexibility in education, to enable students to be able to use supporting software and technology on their own devices instead of being constrained to the EduPCs in the PC rooms. As such, the “Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)” project was introduced. In this project, students would have the opportunity to use their own laptops (in place of EduPCs in classrooms). Trials were carried out in three courses to test the feasibility as well as to find out about students’ and teachers’ reactions to the concept. An evaluation team was brought in to independently evaluate the trials, and to find out the perceived effects of the current BYOD trials on students and teachers in order to provide recommendations for future university policy.
