Project
Educational Inequalities and Economic Development
How much schooling children receive determines their adult-life incomes. Parents are instrumental in financing education and in allocating limited resources between siblings, which sometimes leads to unequal educational outcomes within families. This project investigates the conditions that lead to inequalities in the allocation of educational resources between siblings, and to which degree this translates into inequalities in well-being between siblings in adulthood. These insights will be used to understand how current educational policies interact with parental decision making in shaping educational inequalities in low- and middle-income countries.
