Project
Drying of water borne coating: Spontaneous Inversion in Jammed Systems
During drying of a water borne coating, the dispersed resin must form a continuous, water-resistant film.
The present project aims at:
- Improving our understanding of phase inversion of emulsions, particularly those containing a very viscous (resinous) dispersed phase
- Developing new methods to make direct observations of droplet deformation and coalescence in drying films (confocal microscopy)
- Investigating the effects of particulate (Pickering-type) stabilizers in resin emulsions, with special emphasis on the phase inversion process
