Project
Clever Cover Cropping
Clever Cover Cropping is a NWO Green funded project in which we aim to find synergistic mixtures of cover crops for sustainable soils, in collaboration with CSE (WUR) and NIOO.
Cover cropping is commonly used to prevent nutrient leaching. Cover crops capture the nutrients left in the soil profile after the main crop and increase the soil organic matter content. Growing species mixtures of cover crops may be a simple tool to increase biodiversity in agriculture, to combine multiple functions and prevent crop failure. We examine if clever combinations of cover crop species will simultaneously increase nutrient use efficiency and improve soil quality.
