Project

AquaServ

The overarching objectives of AQUASERV are to bring together, enhance, integrate and customise aquaculture related Research Infrastructure facilities through the provision of transnational access (TNA), to significantly further scientific advance and promote and facilitate the implementation of European Common Fisheries Policy, the Farm to Fork Strategy, the Sustainable Blue Economy and the European Green Deal.

Background

AQUASERV will directly contribute to the system-based changes identified as essential by the EU to drive policy and socioeconomic performance, outlined in the European Green Deal, Farm to Fork and Common Fisheries and the Sustainable Blue Economy. These changes are linked to food-systems, the environment, extraction, and production systems.

The imperative to shift to the marine domain arises from the realization that the current terrestrial production systems and fisheries cannot provide enough high-quality nutritious food despite the recognized excellence worldwide of the European food sector.

Aquaculture Research infrastructures (RIs) are at the core of the knowledge triangle of research, education, and innovation in Europe, and have a fundamental impact on leveraging critical mass around common European strategies and objectives.

Project description

AQUASERV will achieve the objectives by offering scientists from academia and business on-site transnational (TA) access to an advanced set of European research infrastructures related to research and management of marine and freshwater biological resources, food and biotechnology. These include the European Marine Biological Resource Centre ERIC (EMBRC), the Analysis and Experimentation on Ecosystems ERIC, The Aquaculture for Excellence for Aquaculture in Fish (Aquaexcel), and the Infrastructure for Promoting Metrology in Food and Nutrition (METROFOOD).

AQUASERV has assembled a cluster of specialized RIs with a strong record in service provision in the aquatic and the social sciences, offering a comprehensive portfolio of cutting-edge inter- and transdisciplinary integrated and customised services to address the implementation of European policies.
