Marine Ecosystem Restoration in Changing European Seas (MERCES)
Restoration of degraded marine habitats requires knowledge of ecology, economics, and governance. MERCES aims to develop and improve restoration approaches to recover vulnerable and damaged European marine habitats, such as seagrass beds, kelp forests, and deep-sea corals, taking into consideration the costs of different restoration techniques, the economic importance of the ecosystem services at stake, the social acceptability of restoration activities, and the necessary governance arrangements.
Within MERCES the Environmental Environmental Economics and Natural Resources Group contributes to cost-effectiveness analyses of restoration measures and non-market valuation of ecosystem services, in close collaboration with
