mr.dr. SJ (Simon) Tans
DocentSimon Tans is a Lecturer in Environmental Law at the Law Group of Wageningen University & Research. His PhD concerned international trade law, EU law and the implementation of trade commitments relating to the movement of service providers across borders (at Radboud University Nijmegen). His subsequent research centered on EU law, WTO law and Free Trade Agreements. His current research focusses on the manner in which international trade obligations hinder initiatives to protect the environment and address climate change, such as the EU Green Deal. He has acted as the scientific leader of two expert studies for the EU Commission and has presented as expert to the Members of the WTO during a thematic meeting. He has published in international peer-reviewed journals, has published several edited volumes and is the co-author of a introductory handbook on EU law used at several Dutch universities.
Simon has vast teaching experience in international public law, WTO law, international food law, EU internal market law and EU administrative law. He has acted as board member of the Radboud Teaching and Learning Centre responsible for educational development and innovation. He also has extensive experience in educational design, including designing a new honours programme (Law in Action), an online at home examination system without video surveillance in times of Corona, and a learning application designed to connect, broaden and deepen learning in relation to all courses in a bachelor curriculum.
