Personal Professor

Prof. dr. Sanne Kruikemeier is a Professor of Digital Media and Society at the Strategic Communication Group of Wageningen University & Research (WUR). She serves as the principal investigator of an ERC Starting Grant (project HUNTING) and a principal investigator of a NORFACE consortium grant, wherein she coordinated the scientific research of four European universities between 2020 and 2024. She is also the co-founder and director of the Digital Data and Democracy Lab, a member of the Gravitation Program Public Values in the Algorithmic Society (AlgoSoc), and the coordinator of the Human Factor in New Technology at Wageningen University.

Her research focuses on the causes and manifestations of digitalization and its consequences on society and democracy. She has recently published work on data-driven political targeting, social media and polarization, privacy behavior, online political communication, news consumption, and digital journalism.

Currently, Sanne Kruikemeier holds a position as a board member of the Sociaal-Wetenschappelijke Raad (SWR) of the KNAW (Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences) and serves on several other boards as an editorial member, including Human Communication Research, International Journal of Press/Politics, Digital Journalism, and Media and Communication (an international open-access journal), Tijdschrift voor Communicatiewetenschap, and Journal of Communication (until 2022). Additionally, she has served as a special issue editor of Digital Journalism, Journalism Studies, and Media and Communication.

Her work has been recognized with national and international prizes, including the KNAW Early Career Award, the ICA Herbert S. Dordick Dissertation Award, and the NeFCA Young Scholar Award.
