Applied research on fruit quality. For this purpose we study shelf life and flavour. Flavour is studied both with sensory panels and with flavour modelling. We have models that predict flavour for tomato, strawberry, sweet pepper and melon. Currently we are developing a non-invasive flavour model for tomato. The ultimate goal is to have a screening tool to predict fruit flavor without cutting the tomato. This can be used by f.i. breeders to make first selections based on flavour.
Investigate innovative greenhouse crops. The Dutch greenhouse industry is always looking for innovations to stay competitive. New crops are one of the possibilities to do that. At our research institute we test new crops and develop 'growth conceps' that can be used as a guideline for innovative growers.
