dr.ir. P (Pol) Grootswagers
Universitair docentPol Grootswagers focuses on nutrition and ageing, finding strategies to promote independence of living. He does so via two main research lines:
1. Slowing down biological ageing via nutrition and lifestyle
2. Dietary protein quality and muscle health in older adults
Dr Grootswagers obtained his PhD in 2020, the title of the thesis: Nutritional Strategies to Improve Muscle Quality during Ageing. He coordinates multiple research projects around nutrition, biological ageing, protein quality and muscle health at older ages. He is involved in a large randomised controlled trial which investigates the effects of entirely plant-based diets on the muscle health of older adults. He leads a European consortium that develops a tool to monitor the protein quality of diets. He is the coordinator of the master course Nutrition and the Ageing Body and a board member of the Dutch Society for Research in Ageing.
Pol Grootswagers works as an assistant professor at the division, and is in the WUR Tenure Track.
