Guest employeeI am a researcher working for the Pelagic Freezer Trawler Association, an association that represents 18 freezer trawler vessels that fish for pelagic species such as herring, mackerel, horse mackerel, blue whiting and greater Argentine from six different European countries. The fishing vessels routinely collect data of scientific grade quality such as length measurements of the fish in the catch that is used for stock assessments and to improve fisheries science in general. As Chief Science Officer do I coordinate the research onboard the vessels, work with international partners to design new research and contribute to international working groups to improve the knowledge base of the marine environment and provide data to allow quantitative evaluation of the impacts of fishing.
