MGD (Menno) Diersmann

In September 2022 I graduated from the MSc International Land and Water Management, specializing in Adaptive Water Management, at Wageningen University. Over the course of my Bachelor and Master I specialized in coastal and river management, specifically in geomorphology and fluvial and coastal processes and their role in the development of Nature-based Solutions. I have gained international and national experience by studying in Canada, doing an internship in New Zealand, writing my thesis on double dikes as novel adaptation measure in the Provinces of Groningen and Friesland (NL), and identifying barriers and opportunities for mainstreaming NbS in the North Sea Region (France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Sweden) in a EU Project (MANABAS COAST) at Rijkswaterstaat. 

As of March 2023, I am working as a Junior Researcher for Wageningen Research. I am employed in the Traineeship 'Integrated Landscape Approach' (IGA), where I have the opportunity to work at three different institutes within Wageningen Research for two years. From March 2023 - November 2023 I was stationed at Wageningen Environmental Research, in the team of 'Soil, Water and Land Use'. Within this team I worked on several projects related to soil health, 'water- and bodem sturend', groundwater monitoring, and mapping the potential of Natura 2000 and vegetation types based on geomorphology, soil types, and hydrology. 

Currently, I'm working at the team Animal Farming Systems within Wageningen Livestock Research. Here I work on a diverse set of projects, from developing a digital twin on arable and dairy farms, envisioning innovative marine food systems in the year 2100, and researching the genetic diversity of the European Dark bee (Apis mellifera mellifera) on Texel.
