Mellany van Bommel is a junior researcher in the Health and Society chair group at Wageningen University and Research. She is interested in studying the relationship between health and the environment, thereby having a broad perspective on health taking into account meaningfulness, wellbeing and social participation. Before, she studied sense of place in the context of green citizen initiatives.

Her current research focuses on healthy living environments in neighbourhoods, the role of citizen participation and the interaction between green space and health. She is involved in the We are the neighbourhood project, which aims to better facilitate and support citizen initiatives for a health living environment. 

She previously obtained her Bachelor in Health and Society and graduated cum laude from the Master Communication, Health and Life Sciences (specialisation Health and society) from WUR.
