Universitair docentI study shallow atmospheric convective clouds, and their impact on global climate. In our group, we work on understanding the formation and evolution of cloud patterns, through an intricate interplay between boundary layer turbulence, moist thermodynamics, precipitation, radiation and the atmospheric circulations. Specifically, we attempt to constrain climate sensitivity through understanding these processes. We also study the role of shallow clouds in the carbon cycle, and in the evolution of extreme wildfires. For these purposes, we use a combiation of satellite and field observations and atmospheric large-eddy simulations, which we develop actively.
