MA (Marien) Gerritzen
Senior Scientist Animal WelfareDr. Ing. Marien Gerritzen has currently a position as Senior Scientist at Wageningen University & Research. Since 1997 he is working in the field of animal welfare during animal transport, stunning & slaughter and on farm killing of animals for disease control. In 2006 he finished his PhD thesis on acceptable methods for large scale on-farm killing of poultry for disease control. He is first author and co-author of a considerable number of scientific papers in the fields of animal welfare and stress physiology. He is a member of the animal welfare advisory boards for the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality concerning killing of animals for disease control. He is the National Contact Point for EU regulation 1099/2009. On the subject of stunning and killing animals he is member of different EFSA and OIE working groups.
