PromovendusThe aim of my PhD project is to elucidate the intraspecific genetic variation in Brassica oleracea in attracting beneficial soil microorganisms upon herbivore attack to enhance defence against herbivorous insects.
When a plant gets attacked by herbivorous insects, the plant may recruit beneficial bacteria and fungi by altering its root exudates. These beneficial microorganisms can alter plant defence against insects above and below ground. We aim to get a better understanding of this system to improve plant resistance to herbivorous insects which can contribute to sustainable food production.
