prof.dr. J (Jordi) Vila-Guerau de Arellano
Professor/ChairholderProf. Jordi Vilà-Guerau de Arellano investigation focuses on both clear and cloudy planetary boundary layers, atmospheric mesoscale phenomena and the interaction between the atmosphere and the biosphere processes. His interests are also on the influence of atmospheric physical processes on atmospheric chemistry. His methodology is based on developing and using a model hierarchy, from simple conceptual models to complex turbulence-resolving and mesoscale models, combine with the analysis of field observations at different ecosystems: semi-arid (Atacama), rainforest (Amazonia), subtropical forest (South East USA), temperate (the Netherlands) and boreal (Finland). He is actively involved in the Ruisdael 4D observatory (https://ruisdael-observatory.nl/). He has designed and lectured courses on Atmospheric Modelling, Boundary-layer Processes, Cloud dynamics and Atmospheric Chemistry. He developed in collaboration with Chiel van Heerwaarden, Bart van Stratum and Kees van den Dries the interactive software CLASS (https://classmodel.github.io/) to study and teach the diurnal land-atmospheric boundary layer and the carbon and ozone cycles.
