My team called "Biobased solutions for the modern world (BIoSolutions Team)" aims to produce more sustainable and greener processes and materials.

We work on the conversion of biomass, using the 12 principles of green chemistry, into nanomaterials such as nanocellulose, and nanolignin. Currently, we are exploring a called method "one-pot" treatment, where the idea is to remove lignin and modify the surface of cellulose to enhance the colloidal properties of nanofibrilated cellulose materials.

Nevertheless, both nanocellulose and nanolignin present great potential for building enviroment, water treament, medical and packaging applications. We study how we can tune our nanomaterials for high performance structures using the self-assemble and entanglement  in diferent forms (1D, 2D and 3D). Biobased composites are also being explored. For instance,  nanocellulose is being incorporated into another biobased system (ex. oyster shell and alginate) to produce 3D printed materials for building enviroment.
