I am an Associate Professor at Wageningen University, specializing in Agricultural Economics and Rural Policy. In my research I use applied econometric analyses, applied general equilibrium models, and mathematical programming models to address agricultural, environmental, and spatial policy issues. I have a particular focus on land issues, the energy transition, and agri-environmental policy, both within the European Union and in developing countries. With over 40 publications in Web of Science and an H-index of 16, I have contributed to leading agricultural economics journals as well as top interdisciplinary journals.
My passion for teaching is evident through my courses in agricultural economics, landscape economics, and spatial and regional economics, and I have supervised 16 completed PhD theses and over 150 BSc and MSc theses. As the examiner of all BSc and MSc theses in the Agricultural Economics and Rural Policy Group, I maintain a rigorous academic standard.
In addition to my research and teaching responsibilities, I have held various leadership roles, including acting head of two chair groups, chair of the Programme Committee for the economics programs at Wageningen University, and editor of the European Review of Agricultural Economics. Currently, I serve as the Secretary General of the European Association of Agricultural Economists (EAAE).
