dr. EE (Eva) Deinum
Assistant professorIn general, my research is about plant growth and development at different scales. The common denominator is that I use a range of mathematical and computational methods and that I am chasing the deeper questions of how and why plants grow the way the do. Currently, I focus on cell biological processes as well as developmental decisions at the organ/tissue level. From a mathematical point of view, I am interested in how large numbers of molecules or cells together make decisions and shape plant growth and/or development. This more abstract way of thinking sometimes offers surprising insights on apparently unrelated topics. At the same time, I strongly value my collaborations with experimentalist, because in the end, my main interest is the real biology.
Here in Wageningen, I am involved in the teaching of various mathematics courses. If you are a student and are interested in the combination of mathematics and biology, it will strongly benefit you if you gain as many mathematical skills as possible during your studies. Feel free to contact me if you like to know more about the courses we teach, or if you are interested in doing an MSc thesis in the field of theoretical (plant) biology.
