Externe medewerkerDr. Donya Madjdian is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Consumption & Healthy Lifestyles Group. Her research interests are at the interface of global public health and food and nutrition security, using an inclusive (e.g. gender, youth) and holistic lens. She is passionate about creative, interdisciplinary, and innovative thinking and collaboration.
In 2021 she received her PhD degree at Wageningen University. Her doctoral dissertation explored the interrelations between adolescent nutrition and diets and girls' aspirations in Nepal from a socio-ecological and life-course perspective. The project was funded by the Edema-Steernberg Foundation and carried out in collaboration with the Suaahara II project in Nepal led by Helen Keller International.
Currently, she is working within the "Urban food markets in Africa: Incentivizing food safety using a pull-push approach" interdisciplinary research project, led by ILRI and funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.The project aims to sustainably improve food safety in urban informal markets in Burkina Faso and Ethiopia. In this project, she collaborates on evaluating the impact of a combination of social behavior change interventions and strategies that aim to increase consumer demand for safer food, build capacity of traders to deliver it, and support regulators to manage food safety. In addition she supervises MSc students.
