B (Barbara) Rocha Venancio-Meyer-Sand MSc
PromovendusBarbara is an industrial engineer specialized in international timber trade and timber legality, who has been working on methods to curb illegal timber trade since 2013. Barbara holds a Masters in agronomy from São Paulo State University (UNESP) in Ilha Solteira, Brazil; a Masters in international timber trade from Ecole Supérieure du Bois in Nantes, France; and a Bachelors in Engineering, qualification in Wood Industry Engineering, from the Federal University of Parana in Curitiba, Brazil. Prior to joining Wageningen University as a PhD candidate, she had worked on forensic methods applied to timber tracing in the Brazilian Amazon and on timber legality in the Cameroonian domestic market. As a PhD candidate at Wageningen University, she will work on developing genetic tracing methods for highly important tropical timber species from Africa and Asia under the TIMTRACE project.
