dr.ir. ARW (Armin) Elbers
researcher EpidemiologyArmin works as an epidemiologist (introduction and transmission of notifiable animal diseases like bird flu, foot and mouth disease, classical swine fever) at Wageningen Bioveterinary Research, part of WUR, in Lelystad. He is involved in advising the veterinary authorities during eradication and control campaigns of outbreaks of notifiable diseases like classical swine fever, avian influenza, and foot and mouth disease and to draw lessons for the future from past outbreaks. Furthermore, he develops early-detection systems for notifiable diseases. In addition he executes field studies and experiments investigation the interaction between vectors (Culicoides biting midges) and their hosts (ruminants, horses) to estimate parameters that are used as input for mathematical animal disease transmission models that model the spread of vector-borne animal diseases.
