dr.ir. ATM (Ariette) van Knegsel

Dr Ariëtte van Knegsel finished her Master Animal Science at Wageningen University with distinction in 2002 with theses on topics related to Health and Reproduction and Animal Breeding. She worked in 2002 as a junior researcher at the Institute for Pig Genetics. She started her PhD at the Animal Nutrition Group and Adaptation Physiology Group of Wageningen University in 2003 and graduated in 2007. Topic of her PhD was ‘Energy partitioning of dairy cows – Effects of lipogenic and glucogenic diets on energy balance, metabolites and reproduction variables’. From 2007 till 2010 she worked as a postdoc and wrote grant proposals in the area of energy metabolism and nutrition in livestock species. Since March 2010 she is project leader of several large research projects focusing on (lactation) management of dairy cows aiming to improve cow health. These research projects are characterized by a multidisciplinary approach and involvement of different research groups outside and within Wageningen University & Research as well as the Dutch dairy industry including commercial dairy farms. She is daily supervisor of several PhD students and teaches in several courses at BSc, MSc, and postgraduate level.
