Externe medewerkerMy research field focuses on neural mechanisms underlying odour perception, processing and communication in insects. My current work is aimed at gaining insight into the evolutionary forces that shape sexually dimorphic traits within Hymenoptera. I use the model organism Nasonia to ascertain how sex-determination genes regulate molecular pathways to determine differences between males and females. Nasonia parasitoid wasps have evolved a diversity of pheromone phenotypes both within and between species. My goal is to unravel how the process of sex determination has shaped pheromone synthesis, perception and neural processing into odour-guided behaviour.
